Mother of the Year - Part II

To continue on our quest for Mother of the Year. As Possum approaches the six month mark, we know it is almost time to start solids. We had every intention of testing it out during the Holiday Break, but life got the better of us once again. With the new year upon us, there was every opportunity to introduce rice cereal, if we had ever gotten around to remembering to buy some. Of course, just because its in the house, does not mean you will remember to use it, as evidenced by our fresh can of rice cereal sitting on the kitchen counter for over a week.

Thank goodness for Becca, sensing the need to eat more and more, she took it upon herself to throw caution to the wind and intorduce rice cereal to my baby. HE LOVED IT! No surprises there! She said she never saw a baby take to food like he does. He gets that from my side of the family.

I have always said, there is no reason for any baby to go hungry and here I am, Mother of the Year, letting my baby go hungry. I promise to be better and start pureeing those organic vegetables soon!

Big Boy Car Seat

There are several reasons why we aren't as "on it" with this little one.

1. With Big Brother around, we cannot overly obsess on every little thing he does.
2. With big Brother around, our lives are exponentially more hectic.
3. Big Brother is sooo big, he always makes Possum look little.
4. Its hard to acknowledge that your baby is quickly not your baby any more.

Having said all that, I told Patrick that we needed to start considering moving Possum into a big boy car seat.  While the infant seat is great for transfer, it was starting to get way too heavy to carry with him inside.  Patrick kept saying that he was still too little.  Looking back at my journal, I realized that we had made the transfer right around this time, so my aching back and abs were not a figment of my imagination.

Of course, busy won out and we delayed this new change to our every day life and lo and behold, patrick pulled out his back.  He was pretty much out of commission for four days.  Yes, changing the car seats became priority number one this weekend.

I was a little worried he may not like the sitting up feature of the big boy car seat, but was I ever wrong!  Such a happy little one.  I think I want to delay his milestones just a little because I am a little selfish.  I want to always think of him as my 8 lb little elf...not my 18lb Uncle Fester....

5 months old!

I have been so remiss at posting.  Life is just moving way too fast some days to stop and write.  However, Possum has been growing and changing so much that if I don't take the time to record it, it will be all but a distant memory.  Here is hoping 2010 I will be better at it.

My baby is 5 months old!  It is hard to believe.  Some of his major accomplishments include:
  • He loves grabbing his feet!  Due to the cold winter, he rarely sees his feet.  They are often in a onesie or he is wearing socks or often times both!  So when he is on the changing table and footsies are exposed he is very quick to reach and grab!
  • He loves talking!  Or making some sounds.  While most of the time, it is very cute.  It is not so cute at 4 or 5am, especially on the weekends.  I have a feeling he will be a verbose as his brother.
  • He loves his brother.  They can sit and engage with one another for quite some time.  One of their favorite pasttimes is sitting in bed and watching the Backyardigans.  Possum doesn't really have a choise as to what show to watch, but he doesn't really seem to have an opinion.
  • He is starting to teeth, or rather he is starting to drool...A LOT!  All I can say is ...thank goodness for Tylenol!

We are still hoping for hair, but until then, he is our own Uncle Fester!
